OVERALL PURPOSE
The Campaigner & Community Mobilizer is responsible for developing and implementing effective and integrated campaign strategies as well as for supporting the development and implementation of campaigns led by allies and communities in the region.
Scope The Campaigner & Community Mobilizer provides the necessary support to community-led campaigns by leading the management of Greenpeace MENA community-led campaigning platform. S/he assumes significant responsibility in the development and execution of GP MENA campaign projects. S/he works closely with global campaign teams to ensure alignment with organisational priorities and delivery of the organisational goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Community led campaigns support Provide adequate strategic and operational support to community led campaigns via the management of GP MENA community-led campaigning platform and via direct on ground support when possible and necessary.
Campaigning platform planning Lead the development of GP MENA community-led campaigning platform strategies and plans
Campaigning platform operations Lead the strategic operations and management of GP MENA community-led campaigning platform in line with GP MENA vision and objectives
Community engagement Nurture a flourishing community of grassroot mobilisers by providing timely advice and assistance, developing training materials and workshops, facilitating connections and exploring ways to leverage the power of community-led campaigning.
Campaign Development Develop and implement effective and integrated campaign plans, strategies and tactics related to the overall vision, goals and objectives for Greenpeace MENA.
Campaign Expertise Maintain good knowledge on relevant campaign issues and provide expertise with respect to specialised campaign areas in order to ensure that GPMENA can respond effectively to strategic opportunities, and influence the development of relevant national, regional and international legislation and practices.
Research & Investigations Conduct research and investigation in order to inform strategic campaign direction and development. This includes monitoring external political, scientific, communications and technical developments related to the campaign work and the provision of briefings to other departments as required.
Spokesperson Act as GP MENA spokesperson when required and actively represent GP MENA to achieve campaign objectives and strengthen the profile and credibility of the organisation.
Communications and engagement Support, where needed, the design and implementation of GPMENA communications and engagement strategies.
Stakeholder relationships Liaise and build relationships with media, business, volunteers and activists, government and non-governmental organizations on issues relevant to campaign objectives.
Representation Actively represents Greenpeace in front of the business, scientific and government sectors, the environmental community at large and the media (traditional and new), to achieve campaign objectives and strengthen the profile and credibility of Greenpeace.
Monitoring, evaluation & reporting Evaluate project and campaign progress and shortcomings at designed points of evaluation, and draft campaign progress and annual reports and ensure that learning from evaluations is incorporated in future work.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Educational Qualifications
Graduate degree from an academic institution preferably in environmental studies, social sciences or other related disciplines
Experience & skills
A minimum of 5 years of relevant, practical working experience within environmental and grassroots organisations in Arab countries.
Exposure to the design, implementation and management of environmental campaigns and development projects
Technical knowledge in the key campaign areas; understanding the roles that science, politics, economics, industry, media and social change play in campaigning
Strong communication skills, with an ability to draft and write documents, with a very good understanding of the strategic needs of a campaigning organisation
Sound knowledge of environmental challenges on a global and regional level
Project management skills
Analytical and problem solving skills
Budgeting experience (preparing, presenting, monitoring)
Proven ability to work as part of a team and actively pursuing networking with the ability to work remotely
Excellent Interpersonal relationship skills and networking capabilities, in particular building constructive and long-term relationships with both internal and external parties
Web platform management skills and online community management skills are considered a strong asset.
Ability to effectively present information to a variety of audiences
Excellent command of written and verbal communications skills in Arabic and good command English language. French is a plus.
