Job Description and Requirements
Principal Objective
Providing ELV Electrical & Telecommunications Engineering support within a multi-discipline engineering environment, to answer A/E reviews, preparation of engineering/design contract RFP’s, review of PC/EPC contract based design/shop drawings and materials, construction trouble shooting.
Interfaces with other sections/disciplines of the department.
Completed Work may also be performed in collaboration with A/E or other design professionals.
Organizational Relationship
Member of Technical Support Section of the Engineering Department professional staff supporting all MYAS projects.
Reports professionally to the Supervising Principal Electrical Engineer.
Interfaces with project management staff, other Royal Commission Departments and contractors.
Interfaces with other engineering disciplines, project staff, other RC departments, A/E representatives, and construction contractor representatives.
Major Activities Performed
Performs ELV Electrical & Telecommunications Engineering work to meet the overall city development program requirements and standards.
Review A/E contractor design drawings, specifications, and calculation submittals; and, coordinate the same with the work of other disciplines.
Coordinate Engineering activities with those of other disciplines and project management team within the Engineering Department; and, also Royal Commission Departments as and where necessary.
Provide technical advice to other sections within the Royal Commission.
Prepares proposals for design work including sketches and cost estimates for labor, equipment, and materials.
Process submittals/substitution requests during construction and address RFI’s.
Prepare technical specifications, conceptual schemes and scope of work descriptions.
Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) documents with design concepts.
Provide technical assistance during pre-bid conferences, proposal evaluations, and post-award or other contract conferences and value engineering.
Review vendor and shop drawings, and construction materials.
Perform field inspections and provide professional field support and construction trouble shooting as necessary during construction phases.
Perform forensic support work and offer cost effective optimal remedial solutions.
Updates RC Guide Specifications, Standard Drawings, Design Checklists and Design Guidelines as required.
Coordinates with power utility company, Marafiq.
Prepare quality and presentation conscious technical correspondence, reports, and studies.
Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Telecommunications Engineering from a recognized university with a minimum 15 years’ postgraduate experience in electrical/telecommunications engineering field
Professional experience:
Considerable knowledge of the practices and principals of design and design management.
Must have sound overall experience in problem solving field-based engineering and construction trouble shooting.
Professional/Chartered registration in the appropriate discipline is required.
Knowledge of sustainable building design, LEED AP BD+C preferred.
In depth working knowledge of National Electrical Code, IEEE, ANSI, IEC & British Standards.
Middle East experience preferred, ideally in KSA.
Experience with Medium Voltage electrical networks.
Extensive experience with building electrical services, including power distribution, lighting, standby systems.
Experience with ELV installations, including Fire Alarm & Detection, Structured Cabling, CCTV, Access Control, etc.
Experience in the design of electrical services for Hospitals, Commercial, Residential & Education buildings.
Working knowledge of Electrical Engineering software.
Knowledge of computers and basic software applications: MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
The ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written word in English is essential.
