Principal Objective: A brief summary of the responsibilities of the position.
Responsible for review of data relating to corrosion of materials, protective coatings, and Cathodic protection. Make recommendations of the suitability of materials for specific application.
Organizational Relationship: A brief synopsis of reporting relationships i.e., reports to, supports section, group, etc., interfaces with senior management, clients, etc.
Reports to Section Manager. Interfaces with other RC/MSC Departments
Major Activities Performed: List the major job function(s) of the position.
Review data relating to corrosion of materials, protective coating and Cathodic protection.
Recommend the suitability of various materials for specific applications.
Review contractor’s procedures for the application and installation of protective coatings and Cathodic protection systems.
Coordinate with other departments in matters relating to corrosion and protection of materials.
Review the activities of independent testing laboratory, corrosion or metallurgy.
Coordinate with quality control personnel in the areas of corrosion and materials.
Conduct inspection to determine the extent of corrosion and make recommendations for corrective maintenance.
Prepare technical correspondence, reports and studies
Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction
Prepare and develops the scope of work, technical specification and bid documents of various upgrading and rehabilitation projects in the area of corrosion such as Cathodic protection upgrading, maintenance painting, plant rehabilitation. Prepare the estimate bill of quantities and cost estimates for budgetary purposes of the proposed rehabilitation / upgrading projects.
Perform design calculations and analysis to evaluate the adequacy of the existing CP systems and proposed CP systems for all expansion projects. Check, review and evaluate the test and performance data of the existing CP system.
Perform coordination with various departments in the operation and maintenance of the various CP systems. Also check and review design data and basis of design of the CP system of new or proposed expansion projects. Perform technical evaluation of various Contractors’ bid proposal for the various corrosion rehabilitation projects submitted for contract. Perform quality control and initial acceptance inspection of the various on-going and completed corrosion projects.
Perform review of the various Contractors submittals for all expansion projects from the corrosion point of view in the area of Cathodic protection, selection of high performance corrosion resistant coating, selection of corrosion resistance materials for a particular type of environment or application, use of epoxy coated rebars for new concrete structures and protective measures, and review of various design arrangement in order to ensure that they are incorporated in the design and scope of work during project implementation.
Coordinate with the Contractor in testing and commissioning including the evaluation of the test and performance data of the new CP system prior to initial acceptance of the work.
Review inventory and inspection reports of the damage concrete structures due to rebar corrosion.
Review prioritization reports of the structures for repair and those, which requires further technical studies and investigation prior Perform corrosion engineering studies and corrosion damage assessment of the various facilities.
Prepare the required technical report with the proposed remedial course of actions to be undertaken to control or minimize the corrosion damage. Provide technical services and specialist advice in the area of corrosion, to the various maintenance, operation personnel and to the management.
Experience and Qualifications: List the background experience required for the position, number of years experience, in what fields. Describe the desirable academic background.
Bachelor Degree in Chemical or Mechanical or Civil / Structural Engineering from a recognized and accredited university, with principal background in corrosion of materials.
Twelve (12) years’ experience in corrosion, protective coating and cathodic protection related to Civil and Structural engineering projects. Must have held specialist / supervisory position in corrosion control for at least five (5) years. Must be knowledgeable with ASME and ANSI Codes and Standards.
US Registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable.
The ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English is essential. Must be computer literate.
Candidate should have NACE Certification.
