Senior MoW Operator (Tamper)Job Title: Senior MoW Operator (Tamper)Reports to: Track Maintenance ManagerDepartment: Infrastructure MaintenanceJob Purpose:Operator for Plasser ALC 08 – 16 plain line and turnout tamping machine. The Plasser 08 – 16 multipurpose tamping machine is used to maintain the network for track geometry, in good service condition to enable availability / maintain condition of the networkKey Accountabilities:
Tamping of plain line tangent track, curved track, transitions and through turnouts and complex layouts
Strict Respect of train movements, signals, signs and markers.
Machine clean and in good serviceable condition.
Execute daily and weekly components of machine maintenance plan according to machine manuals.
Effective delivery of track tamping works, achieving slews and lifts identified during recording runs. Maintaining track to within design tolerances and standard deviation limits.
Accident and incident free working.
No interruption of service delivery
Availability and reliability of machines
Keep and file appropriate records of work carried out, maintenance/inspection of machine and any machine faults found.
Report and record any faults found with machine.
Consider ways of improving methods of work and report these initiatives to management.
Strict respect of OCC instructions and commands
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
Five years of experience working on 08 – 16 type, Plasser tamping machine or similar,
Operator shall be able to drive the tamping machine, too and from the work site.
Capable of tamping both plain line track, including through transitions and curves, as well as through turnouts, crossovers/complex layouts,
Good knowledge of safety culture relating to mechanised maintenance,
Good communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with all maintenance team members, including Operational Control Centre (OCC), other work groups and the Management team. Fluent in English language and able to write clearly in English.
Ability to complete recording runs and analyse recorded data from the ALC, before tamping works commence,
Understands the different track geometric terms such as twist, cross level, cant, cant deficiency, equilibrium cant, horizontal and vertical alignment, vertical curve, cyclic top, left and right profile and track gauge,
Understands tamping terminology such as tangent point, circular curve, transition, curve radius, versine, chord length, standard deviation, reference rail and track gradient,
Able to use the machine in manual mode, in the event of ALC failure,
Able to use an S&C;track cross level gauge to verify the quality of the tamped track on completion of each tamping shift.
Desirable:
Completed WIN ALC training course,
Diploma or Degree educated,
Ability to complete basic repairs to the tamper, including replacement of broken string/chord line and basic maintenance,
Understanding of tamping of newly constructed track. Ability to upload track designs into the ALC as well as survey validation data during renewal works,
Understanding of hallade rule,
Knowledge of ERTMS level 2 train position system and GSM-R radio communications and train Operations,
Fluent in Arabic, spoken and written,
Ability to operate other mechanised maintenance machines such as sand removal machine and ballast regulator.
