The priorities of this role include:
• Reports and is responsible to the Lead Electrical Engineer technically, strategically, and commercially for the performance of the assigned projects;
• Has a cross cutting reporting line to the Projects Director and designated Project Managers for all day to day project issues for the assigned projects;
• Undertakes the electrical design for assigned projects in the preparation of overall concept, detailed design and working drawings, as necessary, for infrastructure or buildings or other structures following the overall architectural concept where appropriate;
• Prepares and checks as necessary electrical design and engineering in the preparation of the electrical models using industry standard software and ensures that the models, load configurations, cable loadings, switchgear, etc and all detailed engineering is appropriate and correct;
• Leads the coordination and liaison of the project electrical team from time to time with all technical disciplines; eg architectural; structural; mechanical; telecom; civil etc to ensure that the electrical design is optimised and has no clashes with the structure and other building services/ utilities or the building envelope;
• Supports and assists the Electrical Lead in promoting continuous improvement of the FAEC Quality Management System in respect of all electrical engineering work;
• Supports and assists the Electrical Lead in the preparation of electrical engineering presentations internally and externally as required;
• Determines whether Client instructions or requests comply technically with the scope of services for the assigned projects utilising all relevant information and documentation;
• Supports and assists the Lead Electrical in ensuring that the requirements of the Client are adhered to for assigned projects in respect of technical and contractual aspects including comments and ensures speedy and satisfactory closure;
• Provides necessary documentation to enable the Project Manager to discuss any issues with the Client arising from electrical disputes for the assigned projects where necessary;
• Monitors performance of assigned design packages and advises the Electrical Lead and Project Manager of any necessary actions to ensure that they meet the technical targets for the packages;
• Deals with any other duties that may be reasonably assigned from time to time by the Lead Electrical Engineer.
The ideal candidate should possess and be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge, aligning with the key areas of responsibility:
• Must be a committed team player;
• Technically highly knowledgeable and hands-on experience in the electrical engineering aspects of large projects over a wide variety of building and infrastructure types and in a consulting engineering environment;
• Extensive specific experience in HV/ MV/ LV electrical power distribution systems, commercial, residential, hospital, multi storey buildings and site designs. Experience in sizing transformers, generators, switchgear, SL Panel, MDB/ SMDB/ ATS Panel Boards, circuit breakers, single line diagrams, bus bar selection, bus-way riser, cable sizing/ routing and layout of electrical equipment.
• Experience in the detailed design of cable ladder/ tray systems, earthing, lightning protection, motor control centres, equipment grounding, bus ducts, small power and lighting layout, UPS/ central battery arrangements, capacitor bank, pump control panels, fire alarm, emergency lighting, Solar Power, Cathodic Protection, etc.
• Fully familiar with international standards (IES, BS, NEC, NFPA, IBC etc), codes of practices for design and engineering. Must be fully familiar and experienced with ETAP, REVIT, CADD and Micro Station.
• Wide-ranging Middle East and Saudi Arabia experience in electrical aspects of plant engineering (pump stations, electrical sub-stations), heating, ventilation, cooling, pumping, firefighting, modelling, design and quality assurance experience of the electrical facilities and installations for low and high rise residential, commercial, healthcare and public buildings, laboratories, utility buildings and facilities. Knowledge and experience of working with the Royal Commission in particular, will be considered as a distinct advantage;
• Must have considerable expertise in building electrical software models, both personally and teaching/ checking others, that are accurate, sound and electrically correct in industry standard and certified software packages;
• Fully familiar with International Design Codes of Practice, including American and British Standards together with Saudi Electric Company and Marafiq Codes will be considered essential;
• Proven Project Management track record and PMP qualification would be an advantage;
• Experience in LEED or other recognised Energy Conservation/ Sustainability Certification would be a definite advantage;
• Highly personable with excellent written and verbal communications skills in English and Arabic speaking an advantage;
• Highly organised and motivated, a self-starter, innovative and proactive.
