Insulation Engineer:
1. Referring to building plans and layouts to determine where insulation materials need to be fitted.
2. Choosing the most appropriate materials and calculating the volumes required.
3. Outlining specific recommendations to clients and explaining how these solutions might better conserve energy.
4. Preparing and cleaning the surfaces to be insulated.
5. Measuring and cutting insulation materials to size and shape.
6. Installing insulation materials, using clips, adhesives and tapes to fit them into place.
7. Sealing or boxing in the insulated area with sheet metal or another strong material to protect it from the weather or mechanical damage.
8. Maintaining and repairing existing insulation.
Insulation Supervisor:
1) Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in applying insulating material to exposed surfaces of equipment, such as boilers, tanks, air ducts or pipes: Estimates and requisitions necessary materials and supplies.
2) Assigns workers to specific duties.
3) Demonstrates to new workers techniques of cutting and applying insulation.
4) Inspects applied insulation for conformance to specifications.
5) Compiles production and worker performance reports.
Insulation Foreman:
1) Must work closely with planning department and know how to use an outline for work scope for execution of project
2) Must have a working knowledge of scaffold prints and plot plans
3) Communication of all problems occurring in the field to the Superintendent
4) Supervision skills in being able to lead one or more scaffold crews and knowledge of promotion, demotion and termination policies.
5) Tools and Material inventory (controlling inventory losses).
6) Estimating Skills
Insulator (Fabricator)
1) Fabricate and install - pipe and duct insulation i.e. fiberglass, elastomeric, polyisocyanurate
2) Operate equipment such as lifts, beader crimper, brakes, shears, and hand tools
3) Inventory and order material as needed
4) Works under the supervision of the Insulation Foreman and Journeyman.
