The Mechatronics engineer will be responsible for designing, executing & completing embedded software development for devices and systems, and will provide expert design and modeling of bespoke mechanical parts, assemblies, and systems. He/She will also mentor students and researchers in mechanical and electronic design/engineering and embedded software principles and techniques. The position holder will work as an integral team member on a wide variety of technical jobs, prototyping and research translation projects, and KAUST community projects. He/She will continually work to ensure that PCL delivers the best possible customer experience and professional services.
Embedded Software:
Develop code, test, and debug software programs (including web interface, database solutions, embedded systems, JavaScript, HTML, C/C++, and API’s)
Working knowledge of mobile applications (iOS, Android, and others), IoT Strategy, standards, and different interfaces, hardware subsystems, and IP protocols.
Rapid prototyping using common development kits (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.)
Work with researchers to understand their requirements
Code development for various architectures including microcontrollers, ARMs, microprocessors, and DSPs.
Able to read schematics and data sheets and select hardware components.
Safety and Operations
Incumbent will always ensure workplace safety, diligently complying with international industry safety standards for workshops, KAUST HSE policies, and other relevant regulations, procedures, and guidelines. He/She will report and manage machine issues or noncompliances that compromise work quality and/or shop safety.

Mechanical Design:
Must have expert-level knowledge of material properties and the ability to use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) systems in completing mechanical models and designs (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc.).
Must have a thorough knowledge and practical experience in manufacturing processes and techniques, and a thorough understanding of Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and Design for Additive manufacturing principles. (e.g., CNC machining, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, sheet metal forming, welding, and material finishing, etc.)
Must be knowledgeable in testing methods used to evaluate stress analysis, identify design flaws, and identify weld and structural strengths.
Knowledge of mold design and parts design for molding processes (e.g., injection molding, vacuum forming, etc.).
Essential qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent with relevant experience.
Master’s or PhD in a relevant engineering field with experience.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical designing using DFM (Design for Manufacturing) best practices, running engineering simulations, and developing complex designs.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in electronics design and embedded software programming. Experience in training and mentoring in software development and/or mechanical design/engineering techniques.
Experience in electronic components and materials selection, their function, and properties.
