Job Description
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
A graphic designer produces visual solutions to communicate messages for their clients. Most work is two-dimensional and used within a range of media, including advertising campaigns, book covers, magazines, posters, corporate communications and websites. Sometimes the designer work on three-dimensional designs, such as product packaging, exhibitions and displays. Working to a brief agreed with the marketing managers/specialists , a graphic designer will develop creative ideas and concepts, choosing the appropriate media and style to meet the objectives . By providing quality visuals it is hoped the sales will increase as potential customers become more informed or persuaded by the graphics.
Key Responsibilities
meeting marketing managers/specialists to discuss the business objectives and requirements of the job;
interpreting the marketing managers/specialists business needs and developing a concept to suit their purpose;
developing design briefs by gathering information and data through research ;
thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts;
using innovation to redefine a design brief within the constraints of cost and time;
Aligning with marketing managers/specialists to discuss and determine layout design . presenting finalised ideas and concepts to marketing managers/specialists .
Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, and select style and size of type. multi-tasking: graphic designers often work on more than one design brief at a time;
Working with a wide range of media, including photography and computer aided design;
proofreading to produce accurate and high-quality work .
contributing ideas and design artwork to the overall brief;
keeping abreast of developments in IT, particularly design programmes such as Quark Xpress, FreeHand, Illustrator, Photoshop, 3D Studio, Acrobat, Director, Dreamweaver and Flash;
working well in a team, with printers, copywriters, photographers, other designers, website designers and marketing specialists;
working to tight deadlines.
