Washes and decontaminates used instruments and equipment by following prescribed techniques.
Maintains and operates washer/ sterilizers, sonic washers, steam and gas autoclaves and other related equipment according to manufacturer instructions.
Processes, maintains and handles sterile instruments and ensure that surgical sets are complete.
Collects and distributes items to and from the units in a timely manner and correctly documents any missing or broken instruments.
Inspects all instruments and equipments to determine that they are in good working condition.
Checks for and processes outdated supplies and instruments according to procedure.
Assists in the maintenance of efficient and adequate stock levels.
Reports defects, losses, breakages, shortages and untoward incidents to the CSSD Supervisor.
Promotes personal growth and education by attending in-service and unit staff meetings and offers suggestions related to improved service to units.
Keeps work area and equipment clean.
Maintains quality standards of service by adhering to established policies and procedures.
Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
Acts as mentor to new staff.
Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.
