Cable splicers connect cables together, often maintaining and installing cables for Power companies. This work is usually done on call and in any type of weather. The cables that these professionals work with may be high in the air, underground. If the cables are high up, cable splicers generally need to utilize elevated work platforms or cherry pickers. They may also climb utility poles to reach the specified area. If underground, cable splicers may need to descend into manholes and sewers to reach the needed area. After installing the cables, cable splicers must test them to ensure functionality and ensure the safety of the cables. The cables must be moisture- and fireproof. Aside from installation, cable splicers may also check faulty wiring and maintain installed cables.
Specific education is not necessary to be a cable splicer, though a high school diploma or equivalent is generally preferred. a commercial driver’s license are highly preferred and often necessary to meet the job requirements. The ability to lift heavy weights, stoop to fit into low or small spaces and climb to reach cables from utility poles are all necessary. Cable splicers must have good interpersonal skills and work well in a team setting, as cable splicers will often work in groups of at least two to fulfil their duties

Inspect and test lines or cables, analyse results, and evaluate transmission characteristics.
Jointing and termination of the deferent type of power cable 4.16kV- 34.5Kv
Electrical maintenance and testing, diploma after high school with minimum experience of 5 years’ experience in maintenance Electrical - Cable: - Must have good work hand on experience in jointing, termination witnessing Installation, Testing & Commissioning of 34.5, 13.8 KV, 11, 4.16 KV and low voltage Cables. Knowledge in OPGW will be considered as an additional advantage
Jointing and cable termination of LV and control cable
Cable fault locator testing
Knowledge of cable ladder schedule cable drawings
Can terminate control panels control cable as cable schedule
Cover conductors with insulation or seal splices with moisture-proof covering.
Assemble and fabricate rope slings.
Operate spooling machinery.
Install, splice, test, and repair high voltage cables using tools or mechanical equipment.
Able to perform cable tests like IR, PI, Tan Delta, VLF, and Partial discharge.
Assist for other electrical work.
