Job purpose
:
The Senior Technologist POCT and Phlebotomy
will oversee the commissioning of the relevant sections including the commissioning of equipment, IT systems, recruitment, on-boarding and training of staff, and preparing policies and procedures in accordance with CAP-ISO15189 and JCI. The Senior Technologist will be part of a team of Biomedical Scientists/Technologists delivering high quality services and will have operational oversight within the department. S/he will be the professional lead in their area responsible for providing expert advice to service users.
Education requirements
* Graduate degree in Biomedical Science or related field (Essential) * Postgraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences or related field (Preferred),
Language requirements
* English – Fluent (Required) | Arabic – Fluent (Preferred)
Experience
* Minimum 7 years’ experience in clinical laboratories as a licensed clinical scientist or technologist (required) * Minimum 3 years as a as a supervisor or senior technologist in a CAP or ISO15189 laboratory (required) * Minimum 2 years in GCC (preferred)
Knowledge and Skills
* Extensive functional knowledge and clinical experience in Clinical laboratories. * Knowledge of and experience with Clinical laboratory safety and risks. * Knowledge of ISO 15189/CPA/CAP/JCI standards and guidelines. * Demonstrated strong analytical and decision-making skills. * Experience in commissioning laboratory services and programs. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite * Fluency in written and spoken English
Main tasks and responsibilities
* Provides professional and scientific management for the services within portfolio. * Works with the Quality Supervisor to develop systems to deliver quality services which satisfy CAP-ISO15189 and JCI standards. * Develops and implements robust systems for risk assessment for all activities within the department * Identifies resource requirements and informs the Supervisor. * Works with the Supervisor to prepare and submit business plans where required for service development and ensures successful implementation within budget and time scale targets. * Ensures areas under direct management comply with hospital Health and Safety Policies and works with technical staff to cascade changes affecting the laboratory Health and Safety Strategy. * Responsible for the recruitment and retention of suitably qualified staff. * Ensures the provision of appropriate staff training and development. * Ensures that all audit items are documented, any conclusion presented, and remedial action implemented as appropriate. * Ensures the continued provision of an effective 24/7 service where appropriate. * Uses department IT systems as appropriate to gather, analyse and present statistics and data for management, clinical or financial purposes. * Performs analytical and clinical audits as necessary to support the hospital audit programme, and CAP-ISO15189 and JCI accreditation. * Oversees and participates in the validation of results as appropriate. * Develops common working practices within the disciplines and standardisation of methods and SOPs where appropriate. * Responsible for overseeing and participating in the validation of results as appropriate. * Maintains licensing and registration with Qatari authorities as a Biomedical Scientist/Technologist. * Maintains open lines of communication with colleagues, internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective cooperation and consultation. * Interprets highly complex clinical information to ensure the appropriate tests are carried out. * Investigates and takes action to resolve the problems with analytical methods and equipment. * Discusses and plans amendments and enhancements to the service and implements agreed plans. * Communicates with colleagues within the department on a range of extremely complex subjects and co-operates and consults with medical, scientific and clerical staff throughout Laboratories. * Presents and receives highly complex technical, scientific and clinical information internally and externally as required. * Plans and organizes a range of highly complex activities and projects in the department.
