The role of the water balance and leak detection inspector is to carry out water balance and leak detection in the district metered areas (DMAs) on the instruction of the engineer through the supervisor and assist in attending to complaints of leaks as and when required by the engineer and supervisor. His main duties are to take readings of the meters in the selected DMAs and prepare the meter readings on an excel sheet for water balance purpose and install/retrieve noise-loggers for the leak detection campaign followed by pinpointing of leaks.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist the supervisor and support him in carrying out all his duties pertaining to water balance and leak detection in the selected DMA.
• Prepare customers’ listings on excel sheet and take initial and final meter readings of the meters in each DMA and prepare water balance report.
• Prepare proper layout drawings for the effective deployment of noise-loggers in each DMA and checking for leaks in every connections
• Program, install, deploy and retrieve, download, display and interpret noise logger results.
• Properly plan the route for meter reading and noise logger deployment campaign to reach the destination and complete the task within the shortest possible time.
• Identify possible leaks from noise logger campaign and prepare to find leaks using all available equipment by correlation and pinpointing
• Submit report and finding of leaks for excavation and repair.
• Physically carry and transport the leak detection equipment for site use and deployment, ensure their security and clean and maintain them in serviceable conditions after completing field work.
• Performs any other duties relating to water balance and leak detection work as instructed by the supervisor.
• Consistently follow the schedule and program for carrying out water balance in DMAs, leak detection campaign in DMAs and attending to complaints of leaks in order to achieve the target set by the engineer.
• The minimum target is to satisfactorily complete the water balance and leak detection campaign in all DMAs in the entire network at least once within 3 years from commencement data.
• Ensure that all activities of water balance, leak detection, and attending to complaints are carried out in accordance to the procedures and flow chart as set out by the engineer and to complete them satisfactorily within the required period.
• Raise and follow up work orders raised through JD Edwards ERP system.
• Prepare excel sheet and drawings for the proper readings of the customers meters in each DMA for water balance purpose.
• Conversant with the proper reading of all types of meters and possess skills in the use of all the available leak detection equipment in the WLS section such as noise-loggers, correlating loggers, ground microphone, flow and pressure data loggers, electronic listening sticks and etc…
• Prepare a water balance for each DMA on an excel sheet and submit report and findings to the supervisor.
• Download the data recorded by the noise-loggers and prepare an action list to identify and pinpoint suspected leaks using all available equipment.
• Report on all invisible and visible leaks found and coordinate with the maintenance section to repair all visible and invisible leaks found within the period stipulated by the engineer or supervisor.
• Report on the findings concerning unmetered customers, faulty meters, and illegal connections in the customer’s database and liaise with the relevant section for updating and replacement.
• Liaise with the laboratory section to take water samples to check on the water quality
• Submit monthly report on his key performance indicator in terms of the number of meters read, number of logger deployed and retrieved, and number of visible and invisible leaks found and repaired per month, and volume of water saved.
• Compiles notes, submit reports, sketches, and records of meters read, noise loggers installed, connections checked, visible and invisible leaks found and repaired, and all other work performed.
• Supervise the leakage inspection of large diameter water mains using smart ball technology
• Capture the GIS coordinates of leaks and meter using GPS survey equipment
• Carry out drop tests to check for leaks in reservoirs pumping system (RPS)
• Register district meter consumption using Insertion Probes meters,
• Performs other duties inclusive of downloading of information from the field devices such as smartphones, digital photographs, GIS information, noise logger’s records, data loggers record of pressure and flow, customers’ consumption stored in handheld computers, leak information stored in field computers, and any other data relating to water balance and leak detection work as directed by the engineer and supervisor. Hence, he is expected to perform such duties whether in the office or at the accommodation during office hours.
Qualification Requirements:
• Technical Diploma in an engineering discipline
Job Experience
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an engineering environment. Kahramaa/ DEWA experience preferred.
Work Environment
• 80% Site Supervision, 20% Office work.
Other Significant Requirements:
• Ability to work on site independently and be physically fit to work in hot and cold weather for extended hours
• Quick in learning new technical skills while on the job training for leak detection and meter reading and submit results on excel sheet and PowerPoint.
• Shall be in the age group of 21-40 years and shall be available on call after duty hours
• Work effectively with others as part of a team, build consensus, and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Has creative problem-solving abilities and personal initiative, including the ability to carry out assignments with minimum supervision
• Physically fit and able to work long hours in harsh weather conditions.

Able to quickly acquire skills in using and maintaining new leak detection equipment with computer interface.
Read and understand thoroughly the operating and maintenance manual for all equipment’s.
Qatar/ GCC driving licence preferred.
Kahramaa/ DEWA experience is ig advantage.
• Has reasonable command of English Language and be able to read, write, and speak in the language.
• Good hearing capabilities with no hearing defects.
• Has general awareness of Health & Safety requirements.
• Able to work under pressure and emergency situation.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings of water network and pipe layout, flow charts, O& M manuals and procedures.
• Work fast with the computer and have knowledge of the latest version of the basic computer software’s and GIS for preparing drawings, submitting reports and analyzing results.
