As Corporate Counsel, you will be an integral part of the continued rapid growth of Cognizant’s Middle Eastern operations, both in terms of existing service lines and new growth areas but you might also be involved in the operations of other areas or jurisdictions, such as UKI. You will operate under a variety of laws, including English, Saudi and UAE. The role will involve daily exposure to our clients and Cognizant senior management and, although this role will be part of the EMEA LATAM legal team, you will work very closely with Cognizant’s legal, business and other teams around the world.
A day in the life of a Cognizant Lawyer:
Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting, negotiating and interpreting a wide variety of commercial issues and transactions, varying in nature, complexity and value, from a simple NDA or a consultancy contract to a multi-million pound complex technology (robotics, cloud, etc.) or business outsourcing agreement. Other responsibilities include assisting with corporate transactions and integration activities and promoting strong corporate governance and risk mitigation practices, as well as advising on ad-hoc issues that arise on a daily basis. You will be responsible for the legal review and negotiation of commercial agreements with clients in a broad range of industries and work on all phases of deals, ranging from the proposal/bid review stages, right through to final negotiation, escalation to senior Cognizant leadership and dealing with any post signature issues. This is also an opportunity to really get under the skin of the business and develop close working relationships with the deal-making teams.

While commercial law experience is essential to this role, you must come with a commercial mind set. Your experience in working on IT contracts, advising on privacy, security and intellectual property related issues must be accompanied by the ability to balance legal risks with commercial and operational needs of the business; you should be able to demonstrate strong, effective and impactful communication skills with people at all levels and backgrounds, being able to multitask with rapidly changing priorities in a dynamic working environment. Experience of working in the Middle East would be very advantageous, including (although not a strict requirement) some understanding of Sharia law and Arab language
