To provide coordination, communication and leadership of all activities of the diagnostic laboratory. Management of day-to-day operations of the diagnostic laboratory to include directing and reviewing quality of laboratory work performed, supervising and evaluating personnel, quality control, safety, purchasing, training of new employees and students, writing and revising SOPs, and preparation of reports. Responsible for participating in a rotating on call schedule for weekends and holiday coverage.
1) Take an overall responsibility for an assigned section such as haematology, chemistry etc.
2) Ensure adequate supply of reagents all the time by keeping track of inventory and ordering in a timely manner following a procedure defined by the laboratory.
3) Ensure adequate documentation of daily internal quality control.
4) Ensure timely submission of External Quality Assurance (EQA) results.
5) Establish and use laboratory data derived Mean and SD for all quantitative parameters for each new lot number of internal quality control material before putting in use, under the supervision of laboratory manager and/or pathologist.
6) Prepare, review and submit monthly statistics as defined by the laboratory for each parameter.
7) Review and investigate EQA failures and submit in timely manner to laboratory manager and/or pathologist for further review and approval.
8) Ensure adequate staffing for the section under guidance/supervision from laboratory manager.
9) Train technologists periodically on analyzers, tests and relevant Quality Management System (QMS) processes.
10) Work as a bench technologist as and when there is a requirement, as dictated by staff shortage or requested by the laboratory manager.
11) Participate actively in QMS related activities as requested by laboratory manager, quality coordinator/manager or pathologist.
