ROLE SUMMARY
The main purpose of this position is to train all Averda drivers how to drive safely a (light or heavy) vehicle, how to maintain the truck and how to operate all the attachments on the truck. Driving Instructors are primarily responsible for classroom training, behind-the-wheel instruction and “on the job training” of new drivers.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Fleet & Driver Requirements
• Understands the minimum requirement (license, skills, knowledge, experience, etc.…) drive and operate each type of vehicle.
• Knowledge of country regulations and/ or best practices related to the trucking industry and driving, operating and maintaining vehicles.
• Have or acquire knowledge on safe and efficient driving and operate all the relevant fleet.
• Coordinate with relevant department to ensure job descriptions are up to date.
• Proficient in skills as they relate to operations of over-the-road, diesel-powered Class A commercial vehicles.
Recruitment
• Assist with driver recruitment efforts.
• Train the trainer or perform pre-employment driver testing.
• Report on pre-assessment result to hiring manager & HR.
Training & Evaluation
• Design the training and other materials to train averda drivers or raise awareness for other employees
• Develop training plans and programs in coordination with relevant functions (Fleet, SHEQ, Operations, HR, etc…) to ensure compliance with local requirements and international standards
• Preparation of a training plan based on identified standards and staff requirements.
• Train the trainers.
• Coordinate with other department on driver related issues (Fleet, SHEQ, HR, etc…).
• Evaluates drivers to measure their progress toward achievement of objectives and informs them in a timely manner of their progress.
• Identifies and assesses drivers who need additional instruction to successfully prepare them for taking on a driver’s role.
• Maintains appropriate records for courses, classes, students, instructors and equipment in accordance with state and regulatory/licensure agencies or internal documentation procedures.
Fleet & SHEQ Standards
• Recommends supplies and equipment for budgetary consideration.
• Facilitates the repair of equipment and vehicles if necessary.
• Assist to comply with all applicable country regulations regarding operation of commercial vehicles.
• Assist to comply with all Company employment policies, sheq policies and substance abuse prevention policies.
• Consistently at work and on time; ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrive at meetings and appointments on time.
• Oversee day-to-day operation of the drivers.
• Participates in Route Assessments and compiles reports.
• Practices “on the job training” where required.
Complies with the Health & Safety instructions:
• Responsible in exercising due diligence towards health & safety of self & others in the organization.
• Responsible to comply with the applicable HSE procedures, instructions, requirements, standards received from regulatory and statutory bodies.
• Responsible for reporting to superior occurrences, events, violations and acts that may impact staff health and safety or the environment.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES/SUCCESS CRITERIA
• Completion of training programs (100%)
• Completion of evaluation programs (100%)
• Compliance of driver’s training procedure and program with relevant local and international standards (ISO)
• Safety guidelines covered at 100%
• Ensure practical tests are applied prior to conversion of employees to Drivers
• Reduction and minimal rate of accidents, fines and penalties
المهارات
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school graduate or equivalent
• Candidate should have minimum 3 years UAE driving license or be in a position to obtain it at short notice (conversion)
• 5 years proven classroom/vehicle training experience is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Profound experience as a driving instructor and assessor
• Excellent driving skills (including driving a drawbar trailer)
• Must have a Zero accident history in the past year
• Excellent communication skills which help while teaching traffic laws and explaining safety regulations in a classroom setting
• Excellent instructional skills
• Extensive knowledge of vehicle control and maintenance
• Fluent in English
• Experience in Waste Management and related vehicles are an added advantage
