DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Admits, evaluates, assists patients and decide whether they need ICU admission or not.
- Plays a major role in transferring patients from hospital to hospital or abroad
- Accompanies patients while they are carrying out an investigative procedure such as CT scan
- Decides the management plan and implementation of the plan
- Teaching Medical students and junior doctors, researching and auditing
- Performs in-patients and out-patient duties and consultations
- Perform consultations for other departments; including on occasional assessment of patients outside the hospital.
- Accepts consultations from other services to assist patients who might need ICU admissions
- Must be able to accompany a patient abroad if needed by permission and request of the medical board or assist patients in other hospitals as well as providing them with medical reports.
- Teaches and supervises junior staff in the ICUAn ICU consultant must always be willing and ready to carry out big decisions regarding the transfer and management of crucially care patients to and from the hospital. They must have excellent communication skills and take active administrative and teaching roles. Consultants may admit, evaluate and treat patients. They may scrutinize, analyze and investigate patients; they are in charge of supporting and guiding junior staff. They must be involved in in-patient and out-patient duties and patient care. They are responsible for junior staff, clinic duties and must also write reports and transfer notes.
