Overview of Role
The Events & Marketing Manager is a senior leader on the TechShop team, reporting directly to the General Manager. The EMM will lead the special events arm of TechShop Abu Dhabi and work closely with the Community to leverage TechShop’s unique resources and venue to produce excellent events. By scheduling and producing special community gatherings, parties, team-building activities and corporate meetings, this important role ensures a meaningful, well-organized, eye-opening TechShop experience to individuals and groups of all sizes. This position will also be responsible for managing social media and local marketing outreach efforts. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities (include but are not limited to)
● Manages and creates monthly TechShop Abu Dhabi Events Calendar
● Coordinates all aspects of events (blocking off equipment & shop areas, managing catering, ordering event supplies, scheduling event staffing, etc.)
● Owns TechShop Abu Dhabi social media presence, responsible for creating postings to promote new classes, workshops and special events.
● Interacts daily with Education Coordinator and Front Desk Lead to ensure there are no conflicts involving staffing, shop space, equipment, or other shop resources
● Regularly meets with community groups alongside General Manager (schools, universities, hackerspaces, corporations, libraries, city governments) to identify opportunities for support
● Works to establish TechShop as an events resource and venue in the community
● Works closely with the Marketing Team and GM to design, execute and deploy promotional materials around the shop and community
● Responsible for the recruitment of exceptional talent to fill open positions for event staffing
● Responsible for regular auditing of events and follow-up on feedback from participants to ensure all are satisfied with experience
● Holds event staff accountable for standards of excellence in member experience
● Tracks, verifies and manages event staff invoices to ensure accurate and efficient payment
● Acts as one of the first interaction points for members entering the TechShop community
● Greets all event attendees as prospective members with energy and ability to talk about all the equipment, classes, and opportunities TechShop provides
● Enlist staff, instructors and other TechShop members to share their knowledge with the community, find new outreach opportunities and ways to bring engaging events into TechShop
● Manages and prepares all outreach event equipment and promotional materials
● Builds TechShop’s presence in local maker community and when possible offers TechShop space to local groups for MeetUps and other social events appropriate to our mission and values
● Works with General Manager to participate in and support local maker events with appropriate levels of sponsorship and staff involvement
● Establish and maintain contact with event organizers in the community to maximize TechShop exposure to the public
● Maintains outstanding relationships with TechShop sellers, volunteers, and star members for use in special events, demonstrations and outreach

● Demonstrates ability to interact and cooperate with all members of local store staff, instructors, sales and marketing teams, and executive level team members
● Works as a team player. Is capable of not only establishing good rapport with the team, but also listen and advise on potential activities as needed

● Maintains strong relationships with local community DIY and Maker leaders and partners

Necessary Skills, Education and Required Experience
● Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills
● Exceptional focus and time management skills
● Experience with Event or Education scheduling and management
● Excellent relationships within the local store’s Artist/DIY/Maker communities
● Fantastic customer service skills and a desire to work closely with people
● Strong analytical skills; ability to support proposals and recommendations with compelling financial and quantitative information
● Intermediate computer skills, proficiency with Internet, email, Google Apps, and Microsoft Office
● Efficient, friendly and genuine
● Working knowledge of DIY and maker movement
● Experience with scheduling and management of multiple events; large and small scale
● Excellent relationships within the local store’s DIY community
