Overview of Role
The Prototyping and Fabrication Manager is a senior leader on the team, reporting directly to the General Manager, with a wide range of responsibilities designed to drive daily shop upkeep and functionality. Our Prototyping and Fabrication Manager is the main driver of our mission to provide a transformative experience for our customers and to encourage our customers and meet their needs to make progress on their projects and the development of new skills. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities (include but are not limited to)
● Process prototyping and fabrication jobs according to customers need
● Point on customers questions and assistance related to equipment, tool and facilities issues
● Ensure a safe environment for all by knowing and enforcing TechShop rules and policies
● Creating a fun, safe and engaging environment for our members
● Diligently work toward acquiring knowledge of all TechShop tools and equipment
● Building TechShop’s community through member engagement and connection
● Providing tours to new and potential members
● Maintaining a clean and well organized shop
● Maintenance and organization of staff office/desk/work areas
● Performing general facilities maintenance and tasks as assigned
● Performing equipment preventative maintenance and repairs as assigned
● Effectively communicating shop and member issues to the appropriate staff
● Performing consulting, training and prototyping services
● Daily completion of shift checklists and End-Of-Shift reports

Manager Specific Duties (include but are not limited to)
● Coordinates staff activities, including scheduling, training, task assignment, staff performance evaluations, etc.
● Works directly with GM to create efficient facilities and shop operations
● Assisting in the interview and hiring process
● Supervising, providing direction and training to technical staff
● Maintaining a preventative maintenance plan for equipment and facility
● Responsible for all equipment replacement and repairs (delegated, performed personally,
and/or outsourced to 3rd party service vendors as necessary)
● Maintaining facilities and member consumables (inventories, ordering, budgeting, etc.)
● Thorough understanding of TechShop pricing and member engagement models
● Effectively follows up with members, staff and instructors to improve overall experience
● Managing personal services requests (project consulting, prototyping, training, etc.)
● Fostering and maintaining a culture of excellent customer service
Relationships and Roles
● Work with TechShop Leadership and local TechShop Store Management to affect customer
satisfaction, revenue generation, and long-term goals in line with company vision and values
● Proactively establish and maintain effective working team relationships with all departments
● Demonstrates ability to interact and cooperate with all members of local store staff, instructors,
sales and marketing teams, and executive level team members
● Builds trust, values others, communicates effectively, drives execution, fosters innovation,
focuses on member experience, collaborates with others, solves problems creatively, and
demonstrates a high level of personal and professional integrity
● Maintains professional internal and external relationships that meet company core values
● Proactively establishes and maintains effective working team relationships with all support
departments
Necessary Skills, Education and Required Experience
● Fantastic customer service skills and a desire to work with people
● Mechatronics Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Product & Industrial Design background preffered
● Management experience in design studio or fabrication and prototyping shop setting strongly preferred
● Working knowledge and experience in DIY and maker market and/or advance
manufacturing or rapid prototyping services strongly preferred
● Team building and supervision experience
● Strong time management skills
● Proficient in Microsoft, Google, and Customer Management software
● Efficient, friendly and genuine
● Relevant Industry/Job/Hobbyist experience
● Mentoring/Teaching experience
● Ability to quickly learn new software applications
● Good knowledge in metal, woodworking, CNC, and design software
