Principal Urban Designer

The senior urban designer will provide technical and professional leadership in the execution of master planning projects in Yanbu, with a particular expertise in creative concept and detailed master planning.

Responsibilities:
To review existing plans and analyze urban design issues at varies levels as required (i.e. city scale, neighborhood and lot level) and make recommendations as necessary.
To lead and prepare urban designs solutions and reports (text and graphics) on all aspects of urban design, including city image, site design, building design, streetscape, signage, landscaping, lighting, and public art etc.
To develop and deliver presentations to working groups, co-workers and senior management as required.
To work with other Departments to resolve project related design issues.
To review and assess developer proposals for compliance with the client regulatory planning compliance.
To lead and prepare Specific Area Plans for varies parts of the city.
To provide advice on urban design issues at the streetscape and site-specific level.
To provide input on urban design issues specific to zoning compliance and planning standards regulations
To participate on formal committees and provide advice and input to management on urban design issues/factors.
To prepare Technical Scope of Work packages for planning and urban design packages.
To perform any related urban design task as assigned by the Urban Planning Director or UPD Manager.

المهارات
Candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning/ Architecture or Landscape Architecture and a Post Graduate degree in Urban Design.
At least (15) years of relevant experience. This experience should be in urban design preferably with a consulting company, related to residential, recreational, commercial and mixed used developments. International experience.
Preferable to have relevant experience in KSA, as well as the Middle East with an understanding of Saudi and Arabic urban morphology and culture, housing typologies, and/or appropriate design standards in KSA and the region;
Lead project teams’ and proactively coordinate with disciplines including other Departments, sub consultants and other specialists
Must have excellent graphic skills, and be capable of independent report production and graphic presentations.
Must have excellent design skills at all urban planning scales.
Candidate must have good written and verbal presentation skills in English.
Must be capable of working independently and in a team environment with both Saudi and Expatriate staff.
Report to Department Manager on a regular basis regarding progress, design, quality, resources, changes, site issues, planning issues etc.
Ability to convey urban design and master planning concepts and solutions in real time to clients and others using drawings, freehand sketches and other mixed media material.
Sound knowledge of all necessary software programs including as a minimum CAD, Adobe Design Suites, Sketch up and MS Office. Additionally, a good understanding of GIS is preferable.
