Duties and Responsibilities
Performs his/her duties and tasks as per Hospital Policy and Agreement on Professional Code of Conduct.
Actively participates in all quality and performance improvement activities within the department/service and within the hospital as per Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Plan.
Actively participates in all the education requirement and activities as per the Hospital Education Program.
Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the scope of practice and employment contract.
Assumes administrative and clinical responsibility for management of PICU.
Through the promotion of evidence based practice develops, implements and evaluates standards of patient care on an ongoing basis.
Functions as liaison on all levels to ensure effective communication and holistic care
delivery for patients, families, staff, Physicians and Support Services.
Acts as a clinical resource person when required for direct patient care.
Recognizes emergency situations and takes appropriate action, providing clinical guidance, direction and coordination of activities for auxiliary staff.
Coordinates patient placement for optimum utilization of beds, based on patient’s need and Infection Control principles.
Develops, coordinates and ensures quality improvement activities supportive of the Nursing Department and Hospital’s Continuous Quality Improvement & Patient Safety (CQI & PS) program.
Plans, develops and evaluates the unit’s goals and objectives and participates in departmental guidelines review and development.
Develops a staffing plan, reviews, revises and verifies work schedules. Plans individual performance and educational needs as required.
Supervises and evaluates personnel performance in assigned area and plans educational needs as required.
Maintains individual records for all assigned staff including attendance, overtime and licensure.
Ensures staff compliance to current hospital policies and procedures and departmental guidelines.
Develops and plans corrective actions to combat initial short falls.
Keeps the unit staff updated with current and all required information through effective and appropriate communication.

Knowledge and understanding of effective leadership.
Leadership, communication, conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
Knowledge of current and established Nursing concepts, principles and practices.
Knowledge and understanding on complaint management and incident investigation.
Ability to compile/write reports and nursing programs reports.
Fluency and comprehension in written and spoken English.
Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
