Duties and Responsibilities
Performs his/her duties and tasks as per Hospital Policy and Agreement onProfessional Code of Conduct.
Actively participates in all quality and performance improvement activities within the department/service and within the hospital as per Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Plan.
Actively participates in all the education requirement and activities as per the Hospital Education Program.
Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the scope of practice and employment contract.
Ensures patient confidentiality is maintained and rights and upheld.
. Communicates and provides accurate and complete information through established verbal and written reports.
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care accordance with established Policies and Procedures, and required standards of patient care, safety and Infection Control.
Monitors normal pregnancies: carries out the examinations necessary for monitoring the development of normal pregnancies.
Performs a variety of supportive and technical Midwifery skills utilizing range of equipment, supplies, medications, treatments, monitoring techniques and other diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive measures in carrying out medical orders.
Cares for and assist the mother during Labour and monitors the condition of the fetus in utero by the appropriate clinical and technical means.
Conducts uncomplicated, spontaneous deliveries and perform episiotomies, where required.
Recognizes high risk pregnancies and refers cases to Physician in emergency situations. Takes appropriate action to provide initial stabilization of the mother and/or baby, pending arrival of the Physician
Recognize the warning signs of abnormality in the mother or infant which necessitates referral to a doctor and assist the latter where appropriate. Takes the necessary measures in the doctor’s absence. Informs Midwife-in-charge of any developing complications.
Attends O.R to serve as midwife in-charge for ceasarean patients and assist the nursereceiving the baby and Paediatrician with care and resuscitation of the newborn infant.
Plans and provides patient teaching relative to their understanding of pregnancychildbirth and care of the infant.
Participates in aspects of the unit’s total Midwifery program, such as patient careconferences, staff orientation, CQI activities, continuing education, unit meetings,special projects and offers suggestions for improving services.
6.17. Exercises professional behavior and is responsible for her actions as a Registered Midwife
Serves as a Charge Nurse as assigned by the Head Nurse. In the absence of Head Nurse/Assistant Head Nurse may function as an Acting Head Nurse.
Rotates between Obstectric Unit and Labour/Delivery to ensure competency is maintained in conducting deliveries.
To conduct ten(10) deliveries in a year
Maybe required to be relief midwife in Casualty if necessary.
Performs other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of her knowledge, skills and abilities.
6.23. and evaluate the patient according to the policies, procedure and guidelines.
Monitor vital signs, normal pregnancies, VE findings.
Monitor the progress of labour.
Handle the high risk patients as per guidelines.
Communicates with the obstetricians and when necessary.
Care for and assist the mother during labour, monitors the fetus and informs the obstetrician if any abnormality.
Conduct normal uncomplicated deliveries.
Give the newborn basic care soon after delivery.
Assist the Paediatrician during resuscitation of newborn baby.
Attends O.R to give midwifery care, collect and examine the placenta and assist thePaediatrician during resuscitation.
Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained.
Attend the drills related to Obstectric emergency.
Adheres and follows strict aseptic technique during all procedures e.g VE deliveries
Give good post-partum care, assist the patient with ambulating as required.

Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement.
Knowledge of Middle Eastern culture and customs in a working environment.
Fluency and comprehension in written and spoken English.
