Duties and Responsibilities: 5.0 Duties and Responsibilities 5.1 Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges of patients. 5.1.1 Orientates patients to their physical environment upon admission (i.e call lights, side rails, bed controls, television, etc.). 5.1.2 Takes and records vital signs, height and weight of patients. Observes records and reports all abnormal findings to the charge nurse or team leader. 5.1.3 Prepares patients and their environments at meals times. Feed patients as indicated. 5.1.4 Can discharge the patient in accordance to physicians order. 5.1.5 Participates/perform in patient/family education and discharge planning. 5.1.6 Performs other related duties as assigned. 5.1.7 Performs pre and post-operative care to the patient in related unit. 5.1.8 Performs pre and post-partum care for Obstetric and Gynecology patient with related unit. 5.2 Initiates the Nursing Care Process on all patients upon admission. 5.2.1 Recognizes changes in patients’ conditions and takes appropriate nursing actions. 5.2.2 Records those actions and patients’ reactions in the nurses’ notes, under the direction of the head nurse/charge nurse. 5.2.3 Updates the nursing process (care plan) accordingly. 5.3 Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of patients. 5.3.1 Provides treatment using therapeutic equipment. 5.3.2 Attends to patients’ hygiene needs and comfort. 5.3.3 Makes occupied and unoccupied beds. 5.3.4 Ambulates patients as ordered. 5.3.5 Answer call lights and reports all unusual conditions to the Charge Nurse/Head Nurse. 5.3.6 May apply hot and cold compresses to patient, as directed by the Charge Nurse/Head Nurse. 5.3.7 Records intake and output. 5.3.8 Collects specimens from patients for Laboratory examination. 5.3.9 Observes isolation techniques. 5.3.10 Gives post-mortem care. 5.4 Administers prescribed medication, I.V. push medications with the presence of the physician. 5.4.1 Observes progress of intravenous infusions, maintains prescribed infusion rate, and ensures that I.V. site is intact. 5.5 Prepares equipment and assists physician during treatments and examinations of patients. 5.5.1 Sets up diagnostic equipment at bedside as needed. 5.5.2 Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures (i.e. enema, etc.) 5.5.3 Changes dressings as ordered by the physician using aseptic technique as dictated by nursing practice. 5.6 Initiates, and actively participates in CPR. 5.7 Performs other duties as may be assigned. 5.7.1 Can perform the function of Staff Nurse 1 except being a charge nurse of the shift. 5.7.2 Cannot function the responsibility of handling the narcotic medication and key of narcotic cabinet. 5.7.3 Transports patients to other departments. (i.e. x-ray, etc.) 5.7.4 Transports specimens to the Laboratory. 5.7.5 Cleanses duty instruments and trays before returning them to C.S.S.D. 5.7.6 Maintains cleanliness and neatness of patient environment, utility rooms, treatment room and nurse’s station. 5.8 Accompanies doctor and nursing staff to patient’s room for interpreting, as required. 5.8.1 When interpreting, listens to complete statement, before translating from one language to another. 5.8.2 Male interpreters are to interpret for female patients when requested by the physician/nursing staff, but must be accompanied by a member of female nursing staff. 5.9 Requires knowledge, skills and attitude to perform the job responsibilities. 5.9.1 Knowledge, Information applied directly to the performance of a function. 5.9.2 Skills, Technical or manual proficiencies which are usually learned or Acquired through training program. 5.9.3 Attitude, Characteristics that must display in the job.

Good interpersonal skills.
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing/Diploma equivalent in country of origin.
