Job Description and Requirements
As the successful candidate, you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or in a related business discipline from a recognized and approved university. Candidates should be a Chartered Accountant (UK ACCA, ACA, Canadian CPA, and VAT Certified). An advanced degree is preferred. Advanced certification in VAT is considered a strong plus.
Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 8 years of experience, with at least 6 years in value-added tax or goods & services tax specialty.
Experience with Energy operations as it relates to VAT is a significant plus.
Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:
Prepare reconciliations of the monthly VAT control accounts and the monthly VAT journal entries with a focus on details and ability to meet deadlines.
Complete required VAT reporting in a timely manner to avoid penalties utilizing advanced Excel and SAP skills.
Provide quality and analytical reviews of tax preparation and support documents leveraging prior experience and technical knowledge.
Maintain technical knowledge and keep abreast of current developments relating to VAT.
Advise management through strong verbal and written communication regarding complex VAT law, accounting, and financial topics.
Manage VAT tax audits and answer ad hoc queries with tax authorities about tax payment and tax filing issues.
Support VAT IT solutions to ensure accurate VAT reporting, and where required, defining business requirements.
Continuously review and monitor the adequacy of systems, procedures, and other relevant records, to ensure compliance with VAT and other taxation regulations.
Maintenance of VAT rates/codes within IT systems and ongoing monitoring of rates across VAT regulations.
Prepare an annual report on the activities of the VAT Officer, with particular reference to the benefits generated.
Conduct and/or actively participate in meetings with management and peers, utilizing interpersonal communication skills to achieve the objectives of the VAT reporting and accounting team.
