Job Description and Requirements
As a successful candidate you should have a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or engineering. An advanced degree in law, accounting, and/or office management is preferred.
At least 10 years of relevant work experience with a large corporation, law firm, or professional services company.
Demonstrated understanding of traditional and alternative fee arrangements.
Advanced knowledge of legal billing software.
Working knowledge of relevant systems and tools available for matter, document, and vendor management, including e-billing systems.
Advanced Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
Strong leadership, management, and motivational skills.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Ability to influence and leverage relationships within and outside the Law Organization.
Excellent analytical skills and the ability to make informed recommendations.
Ability to present complex information in an accurate and persuasive manner to all levels of management.
High level of professionalism, team player, and a strong client service orientation.
Ability to easily handle shifting priorities and multitasking in a deadline-oriented environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:
Serve as the Law Organization’s liaison with outside counsel.
Oversight of the Matter Management and e-billing system.
Oversight of strategic projects and initiatives and relevant policies and procedures.
Track and analyze relevant billing data, statistics, and trends.
Provide billing reports and analysis to Law Management to assist with decision-making.
Negotiate with outside counsel to ensure competitive and fair billing.
Resolve billing disputes and discrepancies.
Optimize outside counsel spend.
Develop and implementing cost-control initiatives.
Evaluate rate increase requests, implementing alternative fee arrangements and performance scorecards, and coordinating annual outside counsel meetings and other programs.
Evaluate requests for proposals with outside counsel.
Conduct risk assessment and develop commensurate contingency plans.
Identify resource requirements, processes, costs, and timelines.
Identify trends influencing the Law Organization’s legal spend and matter workload.
Establish and document relevant best practices.
Coordinate with the Law Organization’s attorneys as to outside counsel matters.
Assist in budget monitoring and forecasting.
Be prepared to undertake a limited amount of travel.
