Title: Shipping and Transport Manager
Direct Reporting Relationship (Title): Logistics Director
Qualifications / Requirements
Knowledge and Experience: 6 to 8 years of experience in distribution, with at least 4 years of experience in a Managerial position
Knowledge of shipping, transportation, and custom clearance activities and regulations in KSA (GCC is preferable)
Solid geographical knowledge
Education and Certifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics/Supply Chain or equivalent is required
Job Specific Skills: English Fluency (verbal and written)
Preferred industry: General trading / distribution
Type of products: Non-cold store products / non-perishable products
Key Accountabilities & Activities
Strategy and Planning
• Provide input to Logistics’ strategy, roadmap and plans working closely with the Department Head and Management Team
• Participate in the development of Shipping and Transportation annual operation plans and ensure implementation is in line with Logistics, Operations, and company’s corporate strategy
• Participate in the Logistics’ budgeting cycle, provide input to the budgeting process, and monitor achievement and progress made
• Support in investigating and recommending strategies that result in positive financial impact for the company and mitigate financial and operational risks
• Direct and facilitate the reduction of indirect spending levels within the distribution area (i.e., maintenance of capital expenditures)
Shipping & Transportation Operational Management
• Ensure smooth and continuous flow of products from the suppliers to the company and from the company to the customers
• Ensure effective communication with domestic warehouses and sales teams to ensure timely delivery to the ultimate destination
• Oversee sourcing, selection, and hiring of customs clearance agents in order to enhance customs clearance times and avoid financial penalties
• Review customs clearance agents and forwarders’ invoices and validate their payment requests in accordance to services provided
• Conduct systematic reviews of existing fleet to identify any maintenance issues and conduct fleet maintenance compliance reviews
• Evaluate the projected lifespan of the fleet to optimize purchasing decisions of new vehicles and provide technical information and expertise to the Logistics Director regarding automotive needs and issues
Relationship Management
• Negotiate and monitor rates, service agreements, and contracts with third-party transportation service providers, suppliers, and subcontractors, as required
• Lead the arrangement of routes, schedules, cargo space, and insurance with carriers
• Participate in the purchasing of new vehicles and assure optimal pricing and quality of vehicles for the company
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with product management teams and supply planners in order to ensure operational effectiveness
• Participate and provide input and expertise in negotiations with customers and suppliers with regards to the distribution processes
Reporting and Control
• Develop, monitor, and report on key performance metrics for the Shipping and Transportation Function
• Manage the development of periodical reports as required by the Logistics Director and the management team
• Manage and control the development of the required documentation, and ensure relevant data input and maintenance into the ERP System
• Monitor the quality, quantity, cost and efficiency of the movement of goods
• Monitor and control the order cycle and associated information systems
Policies, Processes and Procedures
• Recommend improvements to and implement Logistics policies, procedures and controls so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering high quality and cost-effective results
• Stimulate subordinates and contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account leading practices, improvement of business processes, cost reduction, and productivity improvement
• Ensure compliance to all relevant policies, procedures and controls across the team’s activities in order to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, and responsible environmental behaviors
People Management
• Manage, guide and assist direct reports to perform their functional operations in accordance with set operational plans, policies and procedures
• Set performance objectives, provide necessary support, evaluate / appraise the team and provide regular feedback on performance
• Actively participate in on-the-job training, mentoring and coaching of direct reports
• Participate in the identification and recruitment of key talent for Shipping and Transportation function
Shipping Manager (Reporting to KSA National Warehouses Manager): Total package: SAR 19,500 / month
