Job Description
The web designer is going to be responsible for creating and applying the look and feel of websites. This involves developing a graphic design that effectively communicates the ideas being promoted. Sometimes, the basic concept of a website has been created. In this case, it is the web designer’s task to create a design that matches the initial concepts.
Part of the web designer’s task is to create pages that can be viewed on any browser (desktop/mobile). Therefore, the candidate must be familiar with the responsive approach to web design. The candidate also needs to be flexible because he/she may be called upon to change his/her designs to meet clients’ requirements as websites are constantly updated to remain current.
Another aspect of the job might be related to social networks and search engine optimization (SEO). In that case, the web designer might be asked to create/manage/update specific content for various social networks such as creating accounts, profile pages, adding new images/videos…etc. Hence, having such an experience would be a great asset to have. Finally, the web designer has to be able to work well under the pressure of tight deadlines and changing demands.
Specific responsibilities
- Creating design prototypes, including web design, site navigation, and layout of content to ensure that the layout is accessible and logical, and to recommend improvements if necessity, with the usability of the website being always in mind.
- Building table-less CSS based web pages, that are also XHTML valid and W3C compliant
- Testing sites across multiple platforms/devices/browsers and operating systems.
- Designing email campaigns layouts or templates.
- Fixing errors and web design bugs.
- Preforming maintenance and updates to existing websites when requested
- Designing optimized graphic banners for web, social Media, and emails.
- Establishing and maintaining various social media and social networking channels.
- Managing search engine optimization for various websites.

Technical Skills
- High level of attention to the smallest details, while keeping usability and accessibility always in mind.
- Working knowledge and demonstrating experience with known cross-browsers issues (IE, Firefox, Chrome…etc.)
- Proven working knowledge of responsive web design, and designing for mobiles and hand held devices.
- Excellent level of working with the following software: Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver, Microsoft Expression Web, and other popular related software.
- Excellent level of working with the following languages: HTML 4, HTML 5, CSS 2, CSS 3, jQuery.
- Excellent working experience with Search Engine Optimization and Social Networks is a plus.
- Experience with designing for WordPress and/or Microsoft .net websites is another plus
Education and Experience
- Bachelor degree in Fine Arts, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial experience as a web designer producing table-less, standard/compliant cross browser web pages.
- An awesome portfolio of successful live websites is a must.
