Coordinate / oversee all daily Respiratory Care Services in area(s) of assignment; Assure a safe, quality and up to date respiratory care services. Plan and conduct meetings with area s core group members to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Provides leadership and guidance to the respiratory therapists and technicians.
2. Helps ensure the quality of clinical services provided by the Department of Respiratory Care in area of assignment.
3. Makes rounds with physicians to review and discuss proper treatment modalities for patients in assigned areas.
4. Assists and provides clinical back-up for Respiratory Therapists and Technicians in their daily performance as required.
5. Monitors the appropriateness of therapeutic procedures and performance of staff therapistsand technicians assigned to his/her area. Provides coverage for supervisors asassigned. Performs duties of respiratory therapist/technician as required.
6. Counsels staff to improve service and recommends disciplinary action as required. Performs employees Annual Performance Appraisals as assigned. Gives a concise/objectivereport on staffing, patient assignments and daily activities in area(s) of assignment.
7. Assists/participates in the orientation of new employees. Provides formal and informal in-service training for REC, medical, and nursing staff.
8. Provides on-going and timely communication and feedback to the supervisor or on-call regarding issues, changes in workloads and coverage concerns/problems in area(s) of responsibility. Participates on covering the on-call assignment asrequired.
9. Participatesin Hospital and unit collaborative committees as assigned.
10. Assists in the development, revision, and implementation of department policies and procedures related to his/her area, or as assigned.
11. Helps in the development and maintenance of overall CQI plan and participates in clinical research for area(s) of responsibility as required. Competently utilizes computer and network applications.
12. Contributes to staff development as required. Instructs student respiratory therapists and respiratory care interns as required.
13. Assists in developing, reviewing, and implementing clinical pathways in areas of responsibility.
14. Participates in routine maintenance of equipment. Makes periodic rounds to ensure proper functioning of therapeutic equipment and ensures the complete stocking and proper functioning of emergency equipment.
15. Carries assigned pager 24/7 as member of the RCS Internal/External Disaster Call BackTeam.
16. Participates in self andother s education, training, and development, as applicable.
17. Follows allHospital related policies and procedures.
Education
Bachelor s, or Associate Degree/Diploma (NorthAmerican) in Respiratory Therapy is required.
Experience Required
Grade 09:
Four (4) years of related experience with Bachelor s, or six (6) years with Associate Degree/Diploma is required.
Grade 10:
*Four (4) years of experience as a Senior Respiratory Therapist at KFSH&RC;.
* Average of annual performance appraisal at least(3.5) for the last four (4) years
* One hundred (100) hours of cumulative continued medical education [CME].
Other Requirements(Certificates)
* Respiratory Therapy Registry (RRT) from NBRC or CSRT required for North American graduates.
* Valid License from county of origin is required.
* Advanced Life Support Course (ACLS) certification.
* Paediatric Life Support Course (PALS) certification.
* Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
* Endotracheal intubation training preferred.
