Compounds and dispenses medications and prescriptions in accordance with accepted standards and established Pharmacy procedures under the supervision of a qualified pharmacist.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Performs professional work in the compounding and dispensing of medications in unit dose and I.V. admixture.
2. Reviews and interprets physician’s drug orders for clarity, rationality, dosage form, allergies, interactions, incompatibility, etc. Answers physician’s inquiries regarding drugs.
3. Maintains control and security of all drugs including dispensing, record keeping and secure storage of narcotics and controlled medications.
4. Dispenses outpatients’ prescriptions.
5. Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of TPN and I.V. admixtures including therapeutic agents.
6. Maintains proper chemotherapy handling procedure and prepares chemo drugs.
7. Provides drug information and assists in instructing nursing and medical staff and pharmacy students.
8. Performs inspection of nursing units, discusses service problems with Head Nurses, and recommends solutions to Pharmacy Manager.
9. Assists with special projects when necessary.
10. Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.
11. Participates in self and other’s education, training and development, as applicable.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree or Pharm.D.Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy required
Experience Required
0-6 months experience in hospital pharmacy utilizing unit dose and IV admixture services is preferred.
