JOB PURPOSE
BAE Systems is the UK Government s nominated Prime Contractor (PC) under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force aircraft and train RSAF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons. For such maintenance training, this role is for Implementation of policy, aims and objectives set by the SMU Management Team. Co-ordination and management of the Aircraft and Specialist Team s activities in support of the SMU Programme. Also may be required to provide liaison and support to teams away from SMU.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Aircraft Maintenance and Planning
Monitors and subsequently takes all necessary actions to ensure the aircraft within SMU
remain on schedule as defined in the SMU programme. These actions are not limited to but
are to include:
• Monitoring the planned maintenance activities of the SMU Maintenance Teams and Specialist Teams within SMU.
• Monitoring spares demands, required by dates, forecast delivery dates.
• Monitoring the performance of all SMU Maintenance Department personnel.
• Request additional resources to boost productivity when these are available.
• Chairs the Daily Start Up Meetings (DSUMs).
• Provides twice weekly Maintenance Status briefings to the SMU Management Team.
• Highlights to the SMU Maintenance Manager, issues likely to impact the aircraft programme.
Budgetary Control
Control costs by:
• Limiting the requirement for overtime by effective planning.
• Promoting safe working practices to limit liability claims against the company.
Manpower Management & Control
• Provides overall effective line management of all SMU Maintenance Department personnel.
• Takes appropriate actions to address poor performance and to resolve any disciplinary matters.
Quality Assurance and Control
• Has responsibility for promoting safe working practices.
• Has responsibility for ensuring standards of work meet the quality requirements.
• Has responsibility to ensure that the need to generate aircraft does not override the requirement to maintain quality standards.
• Investigates and provides reports on technical issues and accident/incident events.
• Ensures an effective house-keeping programme is maintained.
• Prepares for and co-operates with internal/external audits.
Co-ordination of Technical Activities
• Monitors the activities of the Maintenance Teams and Specialist Teams to ensure they are likely to deliver in-line with the SMU programme.
• Monitors Incident, Quality Engineering, Non-conformance and Audit reports to ensure that sound maintenance practices and documentation procedures are followed at all times.
• Before delegating any task, ensures all personnel are authorised and certified to accomplish the task.
Manpower training and Certification
• Promotes the personal development of himself and others.
• Assesses the competency of the Maintenance Team Senior Supervisors and Specialist Team Senior Supervisors and informs the SMU Maintenance Manager of any deficiencies.
• Certifies personnel for specific tasks.
Logistics Support
• Monitors the aircraft demands for accuracy.
• Monitors the required by and impact dates for demands.
• Monitors the forecast date for demands and in liaison with the Maintenance Team Senior Supervisors, Specialist Team Senior Supervisors and Supply Chain Team Leader, highlights to management any that are likely to impact the programme.
• Highlights to the SMU Maintenance Manager demands likely to impact the aircraft programme.
• Monitors outstanding loans requests and highlights to the SMU Maintenance Manager and in the Maintenance Status briefing any that are likely to impact the programme.
• Monitors outstanding request for technical assistance and highlights to the SMU Maintenance Manager and in the Maintenance Status briefing any that are likely to impact the programme.
• Monitors outstanding requests for local manufacture and highlights to the SMU Maintenance Manager and in the Maintenance Status briefing any that are likely to impact the programme.
Managerial Responsibilities
• Deputises for the SMU Management Team.
• Establishes and maintains positive relations with SMU internal and external customers.
• Has and promotes an understanding of the commercial issues related to SMU within the Team.
• Ensure accurate information flow is maintained to and from their designated areas of responsibility.
RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION
Essential
• Must have completed Typhoon aircraft systems maintenance Q course.
• Completion of a recognised aircraft engineering trade apprenticeship.
• Completion of a recognised supervisory management course.
• Extensive experience in trade.
• Extensive experience in an aircraft maintenance organisation in a supervisory/ management position.
• Familiarity with PC use and the Microsoft Office suite.
• Good communication skills.
• Extensive experience on Typhoon systems.
• Experience of depth aircraft maintenance, preferably Typhoon or Tornado.
Desirable
• Experience of RSAF documentation and procedures.
