Comply with the safety and environmental policies of the Company, and all relevant international and national conventions, codes and legislation.
Actively promote safe working and safe operational practice which will ensure that personnel operate in safe working environments
Arrange safety training on board and remain responsible for use and safe custody of safety training materials.
Carry out running maintenance of all deck equipment, liaising closely with the Chief Engineer, before any machinery is dismantled. Planned Maintenance Routines are to be followed under the Chief Engineer’s direction.
Ensure all documents under his control are properly maintained. All Company paperwork is to be submitted on time. He is required to properly maintain a Chief Mate’s Workbook, which is to be used as a handy reference for himself and future Chief Mates.
Management of performance, disciplinary procedures and grievance procedures as head of department
