Job Description and Requirements
JOB SUMMARY: Final Inspection Lead to supervise and perform a wide variety of inspection and quality control operations e.g. visual, dimensional, functional and non-destructive techniques, to make necessary critical observations, tests, or completing appropriate documentation as required for all coating applications and liner installation on line pipes, drill pipes, tubing, casing and custom pieces as directed; in accordance with NOV Tuboscope Standard Operating Procedures, customer specifications and International Standards. Reports to Quality Control Supervisor and/or Shift Supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Function as the Final Inspector for the Blast, Prime, Powder or Liquid Coating Station; plus TK-Liner Installation
Supervises and perform inspections of the Blast, Prime, Powder or Liquid Coating Application and the TK-Liner Installation as Per the NOV Tuboscope Standard Operating Procedure
Verify through visual inspection that the pipes are suitable for coating and lining
Perform necessary qualification test by the use of quality control gauges to verify that the pipes meet the SOP
Inform the Shift Supervisor or his designee of any disturbance or irregularities in the production flow that occurs
Records Daily Inspection Reports, Quality Assurance/Control Reports and all necessary Reports regarding operation and maintains the files of inspection documents
Review inspection reports and records received for compliance
Maintain inspection and measuring equipment
Prepare and coordinate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for nonconforming pipes and pieces
Follow all the Company HSEMS, QMS, policies and procedures
Perform other duties that maybe assigned by the Plant Manager or his designee
FACILITY SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES:
Perform all assignments, duties, and tasks in a safe manner following standard procedures and practices. Encourage others to do so; correct and report all unsafe conditions immediately.
Direct Supervision of final inspection and run out employees (Inspectors, helpers and OD coating)
Check work order requirements for thread lubricant, protectors, coupling make-up, and holiday test procedures.
Check and calibrate Mikrotest approximately every 4 hours and when changing between thin and thick film coatings.
Check holiday machine calibration twice on each shift and when changing between thin and thick film coatings.
Perform visual inspection and measure the coating thickness on each item as per applicable SOP and record results.
Perform holiday test on all casing, tubing and line pipe and record results.
Check to insure that the holiday test sponge is the correct size and firmly contacts the entire ID surface of the pipe.
Verify that the correct thread lubricant is applied to pipe threads and couplings. Check to insure complete make-up of the coupling.
Insure that the pin and box thread protectors are installed and check to insure proper make-up.
Check to insure that the couplings are properly installed by either position or torque.
Assist in the pipe tally and insure that the measurements are correctly made and recorded.
Insure conformity to SOP guidelines or customer specification in all operational checks listed above.
Initiate a non-conformity report on all rejected or NSC lengths of pipe as directed by the plant manager.
All non-conformity items will be clearly identified and set aside until a corrective course of action is decided on.
Exercises accept/reject decision-making capability.
Maintain documentation for each work order.
Assist/conduct training
Collect daily quality/production paperwork.
Process, collated, distribute and report Information: Daily metrics Information, Oven charts, Rework/NSC
Weekly collection of sand samples, conduct/document, sieve analyses and report results
Coordinate and assure completion of quarterly quality samples.
Create, conduct, and document QAR Investigation and Findings.
Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned when needed
Perform duties to continuously improve quality and productivity.
Maintain a safe, clean work area.
Follow all appropriate procedures for the accumulation, labeling, on-site transportation, storage, and inspection of materials designated as hazardous waste per Environmental Control instructions.
Assist in equipment maintenance activities as directed.
Communicate and coordinate necessary information to appropriate department/shift employees to ensure effective operations.
Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Mechanical aptitude as demonstrated by prior experience.
Flexible, able to accept and respond to multi-task assignments quickly and readily.
Motivated towards productivity improvements, quality consciousness and safety awareness.
Ability to think ahead, anticipates problems, make decisions, and take appropriate action.
Effective leadership style and ability to use appropriate interpersonal skills to guide individuals/groups towards task accomplishment.
Must have overall great work record.
Must be available to work Day and/or Night Shifts as required and/or assigned.
Demonstrated capability and willingness to work overtime as necessary.
Standard work week is 48 hours; possible overtime up to 60 hours per week.
EXPERIENCE:
3 to 5 years of related experience desirable.
Abrasive Blast and Coating Experience and Certification; preferred.
3 to 5 years of prior Inspection and/or Quality experience; required.
Technical or College Degree; required.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
Excellent English Skills (Writing, Reading and Speaking); required.
Computer Skills - Basic Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel; required.
