Position Title: Range Equipment Technician
Job Description:
Vertex has a requirement for a Range Equipment Technician in support of USARCENT live-fire ranges and Training Area lanes in Kuwait. The Range Equipment Technician will report directly to the Range Support Supervisor and ensure the full spectrum of Range support is provided to enable successful gunnery/range training events; a successful candidate must be a United States citizen, with proof of citizenship and a current U.S. passport. Duties include physical labor and providing technical solutions in support of live-fire ranges before, during and after customer use.
Required Hours:
Standard work week will be six (6) days per week for up to eight (8) hours per day while at OCONUS work site(s), and a standard 40-hour work week while at CONUS work sites.
Responsibilities:
* Assist the Range Operations Planners in ensuring that all required resources are properly prepared and on-site in accordance with unit training requirements, scenarios and published timelines. * In collaboration with unit representatives, plan, coordinate, and establish Stabilized and Unstabilized Gunnery scenarios on a Multi-Purpose Range Complex (MPRC) or Company Live-fire lanes. * Assist training units with establishing ranges to meet range qualification standards (TC 25-8) for a Heavy Armor Brigade; tasks include equipment preparation and staging; movement to and from ranges; emplacement, set-up, and installation; maintenance and repairs; as well as parallel documentation and reporting requirements. * Coordinates with unit representatives to troubleshoot FLIR mounted cameras. * Works in close concert of all Range Operations support teams, as well as the OCN range maintenance teams. * Daily review of range schedule and required tasks. * Live-fire range equipment preparation and staging. * Daily and on-site immediate servicing, and repairs to ensure proper functionality on live-fire ranges. * Waste and hazardous waste management and disposal. * Responsible for the preparation and submittal of reports, inspection checklists and other required correspondence. * Ensures adherence to unit scheduling requirements and performing routine tasks without immediate supervision; must be able to work independently. * Interpret Surface Danger Zone diagrams for all weapon systems. * Perform the full range of maintenance on assigned equipment; including repair, on-site troubleshooting, installation, removal, retrofit, preventative maintenance activities, and customer call assistance. * In coordination with unit representatives, maintain and setup LTIDs and MILES on targets. * Contribute to weekly range and training reports and maintain historical records. * Ensure the proper emplacement of stationary and moving infantry and armor target lifters and zero panels, based on unit training plans. * Assist in the training of employees on operation and maintenance of range equipment. * Perform other duties as required/directed.
Required Qualifications:
* Former Battalion / Brigade gunner with 4 years’ experience on a Battalion or Brigade staff in planning gunnery scenarios for Stabilized and Unstabilized gunnery. * Knowledge of all weapons systems in an Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT). * Knowledge of range operations at major training sites such as the Fort Hood, Grafenwoehr, NTC, JRTC and JMRC, with Subject Matter Expertise focused on targetry, device fabrication and range operations. * Knowledgeable with standard training area and range control operations. * Knowledgeable in all aspects of U.S. Army Range safety (DA PAM 385-63). * Be detail-oriented with the ability to work under challenging deadlines. * Work closely with other team members, Customers, and End Users. * Must know how to land navigate in an open terrain desert environment using a military map in daylight and darkness. * Must be willing to work and live in Kuwait. * Must have knowledge of all targeting equipment and systems, including software. * Advanced communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. * Excellent mechanical aptitude. * Ability to pay close attention to details and inspect others’ work. * Ability to effectively organize and multitask numerous projects at one time. * Ability to properly use measurement devices. * Keep standard of knowledge up-to-date in areas of responsibility through continuing education and new equipment training measures.
Desired Qualifications:
* Possess knowledge and technical expertise in the use of Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat products. * Previous experience working on a US government contract in Southwest Asia. * Knowledge of military training methodologies. * Carpentry experience. * Mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic maintenance experience. * Proficiency in reading and interrupting technical schematics and drawings. * Good organizational skills.
Other Requirements
* Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) * Must have a valid driver’s license, able to obtain a US Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Kuwait Driver’s License. * US citizenship is required as this position needs an active/current DOD Security Clearance as of day one of employment. * Must possess a US Passport with at least 2 years of remaining eligibility * Meet medical requirements for position as determined by a pre-employment medical screening & published CRC and USCENTCOM medical deployment standards. * Walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to 8 hours/day & sit for up to 3 hours/day; climb/descend stairs; grasp or handle objects; use finger dexterity; bend elbows/knees; reach above/below shoulders; read/interpret typewritten print; communicate by voice & detect sound by ear.
