LABORATORY ENGINEER

Job Description and Requirements
JOB PURPOSE

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking a Laboratory Engineer to provide academic and technical support in civil engineering laboratories including fluid mechanics laboratory, geotechnical lab, and materials lab.

The candidate should have strong knowledge, relevant experience, communication skills, mobility, persistence, self-discipline, high level of organization, and maintain confidentiality in all work aspects. 

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Maintain and prepare the instruments/equipment for the experiments
Calibrate the instruments and request periodic maintenance
Instruct students on the safe use of laboratory equipment and check their performance in handling and reading values out of the laboratory tools
Supervise students to ensure their active participation as a team during lab sessions and provide academic support in report writing
Assist laboratory instructor to prepare laboratory manual, handouts, design experiments, grade laboratory reports, conduct practical exams, and assess students according to the assessment criteria
Request, monitor and coordinate the ordering of inventory storage and maintenance of supplies, lab ware consumable and instruments essential to the operation of the assigned labs
Report purchase of laboratory equipments directly to the Laboratories Manager after and with a copy of correspondences to the laboratory instructor
Assist the courses instructors/faculty member in any additional tasks related to academic, admin and/or research etc
Seek IT access of the relevant courses at the beginning of each semester
Ensure that all the existing equipment in the laboratory, regardless their use ( teaching or research), are complete with all the necessary accessories and pieces and are in working condition
