Senior Façade Consultant

The façade team is currently growing with a demand for a new senior level employee to reduce the high workload of current team members and help to continue the strategic growth of the façade team.

Supporting the façade team in the role of a senior facade consultant with consultancy experience and site inspection experience of façade projects. The candidate shall have a background in the façade industry working for façade consultants and ideally also façade contractors. The candidate would also be able to:
Communicate directly with architects on façade engineering related technical and commercial issues.
Having experience in carrying out site inspections.
Besides site inspections, occasionally carry out factory inspections, submittal reviews and tender documents for façade projects.
Ability to produce façade related reports and specifications with different cladding materials.
Ability to carry out typical façade structural calculations (e.g. mullion or glass design) or review of these.
Being able to lead projects with responsibility for the communication with the client, the coordination with Werner Sobek’s façade designers and façade structural engineers, the quality control of the façade engineering deliverables incl. façade drawings, reports and specifications, overview of the commercial success of the project,
coordination of issues with support by the Head of Façade.
For the projects in charge, being the client’s main point of contact, understand client’s needs and ensure high degree of client satisfaction. Collaborate with the other façade members (Consultants, Engineers and CAD technicians). Work closely with the other project leaders and Façade Director. Being able to work under pressure of tight submission deadlines and coordinate with the Head of Department.

Qualifications & Skills

Ideally Member (MSFE) and Fellow (FSFE) of the Society of Façade Engineering (SFE, London, UK).
Attend design team / site / job meetings to discuss progress/deadlines/detail design issues.
Professional background as a façade consultant or working for a façade contractor in a similar role.
Maintain working relationship with external and in-house consultants / other design team members and build relationships which may prosper in the future.
Be familiar with agreed fees / scope of services / programme.
Liaise and correspond day to day with design team / contractor.
Supervise office filing system set-up and maintenance to office standard.
Receive all project correspondence.
Implement project QA policy
Begin to take part in the development of company procedures (task groups etc).
Applying policies relating to health & safety, quality and training
Produce design philosophy.
Guide designers to produce drawings / calculations / specifications / schedules.
Check drawings / review calculations from Graduate Engineers.
Check and comment on documents submitted by contractors including preparation of comments list.
Understand design philosophy / design fundamentals.
Development of details.
Coordinate with architect/service engineer for information.
Ensure project deadlines are met.
Guide engineers to prepare thermal calculations.
Carry out / assist with site inspections.
Prepare site inspection reports.
Assist with performance testing and prepare corresponding report.
Maintain, expand and use the technical library and codes collection.
Additional tasks as required by the nature of business, the circumstances or by the Associate Director / Associate.

Experience/Knowledge/Educational background:

Minimum 8 years’ experience with a façade consultancy firm or contractor
Degree in Façade Engineering or Structural Engineering, or similar proof of experience of façade system structural design (at least basic design)
Has a proven track record in design with different types of materials and façade systems, unitized system, stick system, metal and stone cladding, glass feature walls, cable tensioned glass walls, skylights.
