Job Description
To carry out and/or manage design works from concept through to completion of final approved design in a multiproject
environment, ensuring alignment with related technical/project development activities, conformance to
statutory requirements, design codes, specifications, and standards while maintaining time schedules, budgets and
performance criteria.
Assess and provide both temporary and permanent works concepts and solutions ensuring conformity of designs
and layouts in accordance with internationally recognized standards, and ISO Quality standards.
Identify design requirements for projects, scope these and follow up with temporary works design in support of
tenders and projects ensuring practical construction (Constructability) is considered throughout.
Create and develop temporary work methods & design concepts into geometrically suitable solutions ensuring they
are workable, safe, cost & time efficient and backed with supporting calculations, option analysis and risk
assessments.
Review technical specifications at tender stage through traceable PDF recording methods to identify risk items and
peculiarities recording them in the Risk Register enabling the tender proposal team to complete the mitigation
responses.
Prepare scope matrix and assist in co-ordinating External Consultant works for design and build activities through
to ensure deliverables/responsibilities are clearly defined, and delivered to schedule.
Carry out design calculations on Marine, Mechanical and Civil structures to assess criteria for loading, durability and
fit for purpose issues as per specifications to provide design reviews and reports for required design items.
Conducts reviews of designs (peer, or third parties) to ensure due diligence and compliance to requirements,
manages changes to ensure safety in design is achieved.
Interact with Draughtsman to ensure designs are supported by drawings approved for construction.
Conduct regular site visit interacting with Project and Client personnel ensuring compliance to all engineering
aspects and following-up on risks at the same time recording and reporting non-compliance to concerned Mangers
and Third Parties providing support and guidance where necessary.
Proactively participate in the Identification, recording of Lessons Learnt to minimize repeat design/construction
related errors.
Civil Engineering Graduate, preferably MSC
Minimum 10 years of relevant construction industry experience with responsibilities for delivery of design,
and exposure to construction, costing, estimating and planning.
Proven design experience from concept through solutions to technical/construction challenges and issues.
Developed specialisms with numerous execution phase design projects completed.
Full knowledge and application ability of design management and calculation processes to achieve project goals
Demonstrated knowledge of Design codes and standards pertaining to the work at hand.
Proficient analytical abilities and understanding of engineering design principles with thorough knowledge of
applicable codes, industry standards and risk and contingency assessment.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office.
Proficient in engineering software such as Staad, Plaxis, Reward or similar applicable software.
Knowledge / application capability in design codes/ standards (Eurocode/ BS/ CIRIA/ DNV, ASTM , ACI etc)
Proficient in load analysis & corresponding structural design calculations
Knowledge of shoreline protection, sheet piling, piling, retaining walls and related engineering standards, codes,
design processes and ISO Quality standards (9001; 14001; 18001).
