Reporting to the Operations Director this person is responsible for the successful planning of all build related resources and logistics needed to produce a Spartan Race. Working side-by-side with the Race Director, the Build Director plays a key leadership role planning the event and ensuring the build team is working as efficiently as possible.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure all obstacles for a specific race are built to acceptable standards (size, build quality) with racer safety and racer throughout being the key drivers.
Determine the logistics and resources needed to build a Spartan Race based on the design of the event. This includes man-power (staff, local labor or Labor Ready), material and supplies, and equipment.
Complete the Build Director Purchase List, communicating to procurement specific resources needed to produce the event.
Work with local vendors to provide services such as Excavation, General Contracting, and Water Solutions.
Manage event level build teams including ensuring timely accurate payment, employee health, and positive team dynamics.
Support the RD during the course design process to ensure an efficient and cost effective design.
Manage event specific trailer logistics.
Problem-solve build issues as they develop during the full production cycle.
Develop the race specific build sheet which summarizes all build specific details needed by the build team.
Develop trailer load plans given event specific variations and needs at upcoming events.
Timely pre-race communication to all build and logistics staff covering all information needed to produce the event.
Manage all requests to modify obstacles versus their original designs.
Manage sourcing resources against the budget.
Support all innovation efforts by contributing new ideas and concepts around obstacle designs and process improvements.

Requirements
Qualifications:
Compliance and completion of all safety training.
Have 5 years experience as a Superintendent, Project Manager, General Contractor, or Architect on a construction site overseeing the logistics and execution of various projects.
Have significant hands-on build experience.
Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of volunteers, contractors, and employees (read and speak conversational English).
Willingness and ability to travel 11 days at a time with approximately 100% travel.
Frequently works 10-15 hour days in outdoor, adverse conditions for extended periods of time.
Demonstrate full range of movement including but not limited to lifting, standing, bending, reaching, twisting, and crawling.
Occasionally lifts, pushes, pulls, and moves equipment and material weighing up to 100 pounds.
Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Have a proven attention to detail yet the ability to manage from a high level and often change from one task to another of a different nature.
Possess a strong analytical mindset and approach to managing projects and problem solving
Thrive in an environment where process and doctrine are the backbone for success.
Be proficient with the entire Microsoft Office Suite and cloud based computing software packages (Google Drive, BOX, etc)
College degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture.
Required Skills : Architect with hands on experience. Civil engineer with hands on experience. Foreman with good design/engineering/communication aptitude. Construction project manager.
Pre-Race:
· Create, design and fabricate obstacles and challenges
· Scout event venues with RD as needed and identify obstacle sites
· Source and order materials, supplies, and equipment for events
· Work with RD to source and order rental vehicles and equipment for events
· Source and hire skilled and unskilled labor (production staff) to build events
· Determine wages for staff and manage invoicing and payments
· Orchestrate travel for build staff
· Oversee trailer and storage logistics
· Assure quality control of all build and course elements
· Develop water solution for showers and muddy obstacles
Build Week:
· Oversee building of all obstacles and water solutions
· Oversee labor on site during load in, course and festival build, breakdown and load out
· Instruct staff on obstacle design and fabrication
· Communicate safety practices when building obstacles
Race Day:
· Respond to obstacle problems
· Oversee load-out labor
· Check on showers and obstacles requiring water as part of the water solution
