To maintain the efficient and effective operation of all front of house activities of The National Aquarium and in doing so ensure all patrons who visit the Aquarium receive an exceptional quality experience. This position provides ongoing support to the General Manager and in his absence makes decisions according to the company’s culture and standing.
Nature & Scope:
The Operations Manager provides leadership for the day to day management of The National Aquarium’s customer service division including its resources and assets and the effectiveness and efficiency of its operations. In meeting this challenge, the Operations Manager ensures that the Aquarium has in place the appropriate authority and management structures, policies and procedures and that these are adhered to at all times. To manage Front of House teams to ensure best-practice customer service delivery.

Principal Accountabilities:
Effectively manage the day to day operation to ensure smooth running of the complex.
Lead and help motivate the FOH Supervisors and their teams to deliver to high standards.
To monitor and appraise staff performance for all customer facing teams.
Facilitate recruitment, training and induction of new and existing staff.
Ensure that campaigns are delivered with high satisfaction and appropriate research is conducted.
Ensure all patrons who visit The National Aquarium receive a high level of interpretation, education and entertainment.
Comply and assist with the management visitation and financial budgets for the Customer Services departments .
Drive sales through all FOH teams, monitor progress and administer incentive programs.
Manage all financial processes and procedures for FOH and report in these as required.
Work closely with other company departments (i.e.: Sponsorship, Marketing, I.T. etc.) to deliver to stakeholder expectations.
Deputize for the GM on approvals during times of leave as per established Authority Matrix
Manage the effective delivery of all customer service within the facility including compliance with company philosophy, uniforms, grooming guidelines etc.
Prepare or oversee the staff schedule and roster in all customer facing departments to ensure service standards are being met and staff coverage is adequate for all shifts.
Implement queue management customer flow initiatives and deals with customer complaints that have been highlighted through daily reports, formal or informal customer feedback.
Actively provide feeds back to all teams (including Curatorial) improvements for customer service delivery and satisfaction.
Participates actively in management meetings and communicates effectively with team members.
Assists with the delivery and improvement of both public and school education programs in conjunction with the Education Manager.
Actively contributes to retail and merchandising in conjunction with the Retail Manager so as to deliver maximum profitability and product range.
Is heavily involved in the delivery of Marketing campaigns, theming and smaller project initiatives that increase customer satisfaction and revenue channels.
Behaves in line with code of conduct and models best-practice to all staff.
Acts in line with the Health, Safety & Fire procedures and as a Fire Warden as required.
Other duties as assigned by the line manager
Qualifications & Experience (Competencies Required):
• Tertiary qualification in Hospitality/Tourism Management preferred
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Hospitality/Tourism management
• A responsible, self-motivated, hard working person who is team orientated and possesses excellent time management skills
• Polite manner, be well organized and have the ability to keep a balanced and consistent approach in all situations
• Very high level of customer service skills
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work unsupervised and in team situations
